The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a dare for long-term couples who are fans of the horror genre: Settle in with your partner and stream Together. The independent film success of 2025 has now made its online premiere on Hulu. Outwardly, it might appear like conventional biological terror, but inside Together exists a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together is the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It stars the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie infuse a particular energy to their roles, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a committed partnership.

The story commences when the couple transition from the big city to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, sure, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the two discover an hole in the earth. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The entire film is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in moments of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but never too gross) body horror, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes during something grotesque). Michael Shanks orchestrates these parts expertly and delivers them in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the partnership at the film's core. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the notion of completely losing his sense of self in another person. This fear is amplified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for transportation.

The director's cleverest decision is that he refrains from painting Tim or Millie the obvious villain.

Both characters grapple with the type of challenges that are inherent in long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these concerns of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism never feels hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about enmeshed dynamics. Reports indicate that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a compelling reason for remaining unattached. Conversely, certain partners having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply look at your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an exploration you can undertake right now.
